KUCHING — The EMPOWERED Ministry organised a special session on learning about the Ignatian Spirituality on Friday, 10 May. Fr Stanley Goh, SJ was invited to lead the sharing on the Ignatian approach to faith and life with around 20 young adults from the Ministry and from other groups.

Fr Stanley began his sharing by introducing the origins of Ignatian Spirituality, particularly on the founder of the Society of Jesus, St Ignatius of Loyola. He then shared on other elements of the Spirituality such as the Spiritual Exercises, finding God in all things, listening, discernment, and contemplative in action. After his sharing, Fr Stanley answered questions from those in attendance.

From the attendees:

“I thoroughly enjoyed the session for a few reasons actually. I think the Ignatian approach can be applied in our lives secularly as well and it does bring benefit to us individually. I think Ignatius’ approach is essentially to be in tune and aware of yourself. It is, in a way, soul-searching, but when applied spiritually, bonds us with Christ as we get to see Him in everything. Ignatius’ approach brings depth into our spiritual lives and if we apply it secularly, it also brings depth into our personality. It can also help us identify certain areas of our lives that can either allow us to change or to recognise as perhaps a strength.”

“Loved the topic so much and I think we all should do the Examen every day of our lives. I still feel a little lost in life and I’m just so glad to learn about the Ignatian spirituality today.”

“Ignatian Spirituality is a new term to me and it’s something I should implement better in daily life.”

“I’m blessed to have been able to attend the session. Based on my reflection and some passage I read from the provided booklet last night, I think regardless of our intentions or what may we desire—be it health or success, we should bring God closer into our lives.”
