KUCHING — On 6 February (the forth day of Chinese New Year), the Kuching Archdiocesan Chinese Apostolate together with all the parishes in the Archdiocese organised a grand Chinese New Year gathering at the Christian Ecumenical Centre from 10:45 am – 1 pm. More than 500 Chinese and non-Chinese faithful attended the event.
The Chairman of the organising committee Dato Philip Hii in his welcoming speech thanked the Lord for the good weather and the joy of the occasion. He also thanked members of the organising committee and all those who had contributed financially and given their time and commitment in making the event a great success.
In his speech, His Grace Archbishop John Ha reasserted Jesus’ teaching on unity more than two thousand years ago. The Prime Minister, he said, has also proposed the 1Malaysia concept to promote unity among Malaysians. Therefore, Christians should come together as one regardless of races to be the “salt and light” and an example for the other fellow Malaysians. His Grace also stressed the importance of a strong Christian family in the spreading of the Gospel and to reaching out to other families in need.
The event began with praise and worship led by the Holy Trinity Church Chinese Choir and continued with performances by different parishes and ministries. All present also listened to the explanation of Chinese New Year and its culture.
