KUCHING   At the beginning of March 2019, many Catholics in the Kuching Archdiocese had the rare opportunity to venerate the relics of three great saints after Mass in their Church.

Blessed Sacrament Church was one of the parishes chosen. The faithful who attended the Sunset Mass on 2 March were blessed to have the relics of these saints visit them.

Fr Vicente Robles (Fr Vic) from the Padre Pio Divine Mercy Centre and his team from Philippines, brought along with them the relics of Sts Teresa of Calcutta (fragment of bone), Faustina Kowalska (piece of hair), and Padre Pio (piece of cloth with blood from his stigmata) to be venerated by the faithful.

The Mass was celebrated by Fr Felix Au with Fr Vic concelebrating. Fr Felix in expressing his thanks to Fr Vic for the opportunity to venerate these saints, said that it was very apt, this year being the Extraordinary Year of Mission. Hence these saints should inspire us as they lived a life of mission.

St Teresa was the founder of the mission for love and charity.

St Faustina was an instrument to help us remember God’s infinite love for us and for all sinners.

St Padre Pio was known for staying for long hours hearing confessions, and represents the importance of repentance.

Parishioners queued up to venerate the relics of these saints at the end of Mass.
