SERIAN — A total of 66 participants from five different villages in the Bung Mako Zone, Serian, attended the Altar Servers Workshop at St Joseph Catholic Church, Kampung Seroban. This programme was conducted by the St Theresa’s Altar Servers Chief, Vincent Christopher together with two speakers, Alvenloon Aaron Maurice Justin and Kelvince Del Anak David.
It was held on 28 October 2023. This was made possible, thanks to Vincent Christopher and his team, and also to the Church Youth Ministry (CYM) from St Joseph, Kampung Seroban for their efforts to successfully run this programme.
The programme was organised to train the Altar Servers in kampungs under the St Theresa’s Parish Serian, to teach them the basic steps in serving in the Holy Mass as an Altar Server. They also learnt about the meaning of each part in the Holy Mass that is performed. This was presented by Kelvince Del and Vincent Christopher.
Apart from that, they also got to know about the things that Altar Servers use such as Cinture, Thurible, and Boater, and about the liturgical colours and their meanings. They also got to know the things that Priests use, to celebrate the Holy Eucharist. This was presented by Alvenloon Aaron.
After the talk, the programme continued with Holy Mass celebrated by Fr Robert Jissem and they also celebrated St Jude’s Feast Day.
“It’s an honour to be part of this programme, to train, and to assist Altar Servers and increase their understanding about Holy Mass and serving. I hope that they will be more enthusiastic and diligent to serve God and the people in the Church,” Kelvince Del said.
