KUCHING — The 16th Kuching Company of the Boys’ Brigade had a truly amazing evening during their Commissioning Mass on 29 July 2023. The memorable occasion took place at St Joseph’s Cathedral and coincided with the Sunset Mass presided over by Fr Mark Bonchol. During the Mass, some significant highlights included the Dedication of the BB’s Colour and the Rites of Commissioning for both Officers and Members.

The BB Colour symbolises Strength, Authority and Spirit, designed to be respected by all its BB members. It is not to dignify BB but Christ, as our symbol of authority. We raise the Colour as a sign of victory in battle, our Hope and we dignify our Hope like an anchor for the soul (Hebrews 6:19). The BB Flag and Colour have similar meanings in most regimental settings but the usage differs, as the BB Colour is used on the BB parade for the purpose of ceremony with a special squad known as “the Colour Party” while the flag has wider usage—it is not limited to ceremonial parade alone.

There is something for every boy at the Boys’ Brigade, from learning and refining skills, going outdoors with camping and expeditions, making friends, developing hobbies, serving in the community to becoming a leader.

Whatever your interest, you can find it at Boys’ Brigade. It is about establishing firm foundations (Matt 7:25) long term, throughout a boy’s life (from six years’ old upwards) to equip them for life. The world needs strong, confident and courageous young men. Our work with children and young people is made possible thanks to our volunteer leaders who give their time so generously.

BB OBJECTIVE: The advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among members and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Character.

There are also opportunities for those interested in becoming Officers to co-ordinate our programmes and guide our young members OR Helpers to assist Officers in certain activities or tasks.
