KUCHING — The clergy from the dioceses across Sarawak gathered at St Peter’s College, Kuching for their annual 5-day retreat from 8–12 May 2023.

This was the first of two retreats organised for priests in order to ‘come away to a lonely place’ (Mark 6:31) and discern the voice of God in their personal and ministerial life.

The retreat was led by Archbishop Julian Leow, Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, and was centred on the theme of Relationship.

The priests were invited to re-examine their relationship with God, self, presbyterium and bishop, society at large and Creation over periods of silence across the five days.

At the same time, it was a beautiful opportunity for the clergy to catch up with one another, as those serving in different dioceses had not met in over a year.

The time spent together in prayer and fellowship allowed the priests to rekindle their relationship and strengthen each other’s resolve in furthering the kingdom of God in Sarawak.

The retreat concluded with a Thanksgiving Mass for the blessed time that was enriched by Archbishop Julian Leow’s humble but insightful sharings.

Also in attendance was Archbishop Simon Poh of Kuching, Bishop Richard Ng of Miri, Archbishop Emeritus Peter Chung and Archbishop Emeritus John Ha.
