KUCHING — “Continue to inspire the young people as you never know who they will become one day!” These inspiring words were given by Kuching Archbishop Simon Poh during his surprise visit to the teachers present for their Sarawak Catholic Teachers’ Guild (SCTG) Annual General Meeting.

He shared that he took baby steps to become a Catholic by joining the Young Christian Students (YCS) and Legion of Mary. A teacher was the one who introduced him to Jesus and had inspired him to become who he is today.

The day started off with a Mass celebrated by Fr Stanley Goh, SJ alongside Fr Ramon Borja, SDB.

After Mass, a short recollection was given by Fr Ramon who highlighted that, “You can never be a teacher if you have never been a student.”

He continued by explaining that “if a teacher stops being a student, then it will not be a good thing because by being a student ourselves, it is a way to show we must keep on going.”

“Teachers are called professionals, and as a good professional person, one will always have an open heart to accept and learn more.”

He advised the teachers present to always be a student’s favourite teacher.

“Some might not consider you as their favourite teacher now, but will only tell you after they have graduated,” he said while reminding teachers to thank God for the gift of their teaching vocation and always grow to be a better teacher.
