KUCHING — We rejoice and are glad for the gift of our Canonical Establishment, Christ the King (CTK) OCDS Community and for the many blessings along with it.

CTK OCDS Community rejoiced upon receiving the Indult from Rome Chapter House after 22 years. The Indult of the Canonical Erection as a Community of the Secular Order of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel was granted on 12 June 2022, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity at Rome from our General House by Superior General Fr Miguel Marquez Calle, OCD.

The Thanksgiving Mass and Presentation of Indult was held on 19 November 2022, on the eve of the Solemnity of Christ the King (Our Community Feast Day) at the Carmelite Chapel.

It was celebrated by Archbishop of Kuching Simon Poh, concelebrated by Archbishop Emeritus John Ha, Fr John Chua OCD (the General Delegate of Taiwan-Singapore Delegation), Fr Albert Jacobse MHM, Fr Galvin Ngumbang and Fr Stanley Goh SJ.

Archbishop Simon Poh welcomed the canonical establishment of CTK OCDS Community. We were asked to bring God’s mercy and compassion to our home, our neighbours and place of work.

We are to renew and bring the value of the Gospel in our midst to serve instead of demanding to be served. We are free because we are set free by Jesus, who hung on the Cross and died. Lord, may your Kingdom come.

After the homily Fr John Chua read out the Indult before presenting it to the President and founding member of CTK OCDS Community, Ms Catherine Sim OCDS, witnessed by OCDS council members—Ms Juliana Lim OCDS, Datin Sri Annie Yeo OCDS, Ms Monica Soon OCDS and Ms Cynthia Lim OCDS, and founding member Ms Jacqueline Sammy OCDS.

A copy of the Indult was also presented to Archbishop Simon Poh by Fr John Chua. This historical event was attended by Franciscan Sisters, OCDS members, family members, friends, sponsors and donors.

CTK Choir was formed and sang for the first time led by Choir Master Mr Stephen Chin and Pianist Ms Jaime Kueh.

After the Mass, all present adjourned to the Sarawak Club for a Thanksgiving Dinner. We rejoiced and were glad to have the presence of three Archbishops gracing the dinner—Archbishop Simon Poh, Archbishop Emeritus Peter Chung and Archbishop Emeritus John Ha, together with honorary guests, clergy, Franciscan Sisters, OCDS members, family members, friends, sponsors and donors.

The dinner began with an opening prayer by Archbishop Simon Poh. Thereafter, all present watched a video clip of the Historical Perspective of CTK OCDS Community before dinner was served. The joyful evening was full of fun, laughter, singing and dancing.

This memorable evening came to an end with CTK OCDS Jingle and closing prayer by Archbishop Emeritus John Ha.

We take this opportunity to thank each and every one present, especially the three Archbishops for their great support, advice, guidance, prayers and blessings shared since we started 22 years ago (10 May 2000).
