KOTA SAMARAHAN — On 28 August 2022, Legionaries from Our Lady Queen of Peace Praesidium initiated the Rosary Devotion with the patients and Catholic staff of Pusat Jantung Sarawak (Sarawak Heart Centre, Kota Samarahan) to be held every last Sunday of the month, at 10.30am.
Formed on 11 April 2016 under the Chapel of Mother Mary Stutong parish, Our Lady Queen of Peace Praesidium was headed by Sr Pauline Ung before it was handed over to the current President, Sr Rebecca Raphael. The Spiritual Director is Monsignor William Sabang, rector of the Priest Retirement Home at Chapel of Mother Mary (CMM), Stutong, Kuching.
At present, the Praesidium is blessed with 12 active members and 31 auxiliary members and one (1) adjutorian. As legionaries, members have been involved in all sorts of assignments and activities that are related to the work of the Legion of Mary, like attending and leading wake prayers, visiting the sick in hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, private homes, reaching out to those in need of prayers and comfort, and numerous other activities.
One important assignment is the initiation and leading the monthly Rosary Devotion at the Sacred Heart Chapel located at Ground Floor, Pusat Jantung Sarawak in Samarahan on 28 August 2022, for Catholic staff, patients and visiting relatives, especially those from outstation and patients who are critically ill. The Rosary Devotion is held on every last Sunday of the month at 10.30am.
Another important assignment is the arrangement of Mass on every 2nd Friday of the month at 12.30pm by a priest at the Chapel. This Mass has attracted many staff and Christian patients who are yearning to pray for healing and consolation and to keep close to God.
The chapel was officiated by the Archbishop of Kuching, Most Reverend Archbishop Simon Poh on 4 March 2022 and is open on Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm.
The Praesidium welcomes everyone to join the monthly Rosary Devotion and Mass or visit the Chapel as a gesture of a loving and caring Church and community, especially to people who are in need of emotional and spiritual healing.
