KUCHING  The Archdiocese of Kuching has been blessed with another missionary priest with the assignment of Fr Paul Hu Pi Xian CDD, to Sacred Heart Church, Kota Sentosa.

Fr Paul arrived from Indonesia on 6 April and now serves alongside his brother priest Fr Lucas Ng CDD and parish rector, Fr Felix Au.

Fr Paul Hu was born in China and is descended from generations of ancestors who practised the Catholic faith. The youngest in a family of four boys and one girl, he was called to monasticism after graduating from high school.

He studied philosophy in Lanzhou Diocese Seminary for two years before joining Shaanxi Xi’An Seminary to study theology for four years. Ordained a priest on 24 March 2005 in Lanzhou Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart, he served in Lanzhou Diocese for several years.

Fr Paul arrived in Kuala Lumpur in 2012 to study English. He stayed at the Marist Brothers’ House in Petaling Jaya with Brother Robert Teoh (present Principal of St Joseph’s International School, Kuching) who had assisted and supported his application.

His six years in Semenanjung Malaysia was spread between assisting the parishes of Good Shepherd Church and Church of Our Lady of Fatima in their pastoral ministries.

After completing his course in Science Psychology at a Malaysian University in 2018, Fr Paul applied to join the Congregatio Discipulorum Domini (Congregation of the Disciples of the Lord (CDD)).

He completed his period as postulant and novice and professed his first vow in CDD on 16 July 2020 at CDD Unite Novitiate in Batu, Indonesia.

He was sent as a missionary to the Kuching Archdiocese by the General superior CDD Fr Francis Chang in July 2020, but because of the pandemic, he found himself stuck in Indonesia for more than one and a half years, until the borders of Malaysia opened in April this year.

Fr Paul thanks Archbishop Simon Poh and all benefactors and friends for their help and assistance in helping him arrive safely at Sacred Heart Church on 6 April.
