KUALA LUMPUR — Priests from the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur gathered at the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist for the Chrism Mass on 5 April.
Archbishop Julian Leow, in his homily, said that a priest is called to an assortment of duties. However, in the busyness of doing things, ‘being’ is perhaps more important.
Archbishop Julian underscored the importance of nurturing the “four pillars of priestly life” that Pope Francis mentioned during the International Theological Symposium on the Priesthood in February. The four pillars are: relationship with God, closeness to the bishop, fraternity with other priests and closeness to the people.
“How happy we are will depend on the quality of our relationships. I pray that these relationships will continue to deepen and grow so that we will be reflections of God in our communities,” said Archbishop Julian.
“May each one of us realise that we are firstly disciples and followers of Christ; and only then are we called, in our own special way, to become whoever God has called us to be — religious, priests, parents, whoever.”
“Let us work together in our respective communities. I pray that we will support each other in this journey of faith, in this journey of building our parishes and our Archdiocese and also beyond our nation.”
Archbishop Julian also expressed appreciation to priests who are serving tirelessly throughout the Archdiocese.
