SANDAKAN — 10 members of the Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Regional Biblical Commission convened at the Sandakan Diocesan Pastoral Centre for their 43rd annual meeting. The 3-day event was held from 11 – 13 February 2014. Archbishop John Ha of Kuching and the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, who is also the President of the Regional Biblical Commission, presided over the meeting.
Other members present were Bishop Cornelius Sim of Brunei, Mgsr William Sabang of Kuching, Msgr Eugene Vaz of Singapore, Fr Gerard Theraviam of Kuala Lumpur, Fr Alphonsus Tang of Sibu, Fr Simon Kontou of Sandakan, Sr Margarette Sta Maria FdCC, Richard Wong of Kota Kinabalu and Fredoline Umis of Keningau.
Representatives from each arch / diocese presented their report on the progress of their Arch / Diocesan Biblical Commission and their commitment to further promote the study and reception of the Word of God.
The Commission is working on the message for this year’s Regional Bible Sunday, themed ‘Priceless Treasure’ which is nearing completion. The session on the reflection of the draft message garnered positive contribution from all members with deeper understanding. The final draft will be released after receiving further comments and proposals from each member. Bible Sunday will be celebrated in all arch / dioceses across the region on 13 July 2014.
