KUCHING — The First Holy Communion (FHC) Mass marked a significant milestone for 67 Sunday School students from Blessed Sacrament Church (English session), who had been preparing for this special sacrament.

On 29 September 2024, they joyfully received their First Holy Communion, thanks to the dedicated efforts of their teachers and a Seminarian brother who helped guide them through the process.

During the Mass, Fr Leonard emphasised that, as it was the children’s first time receiving the Eucharist, they should receive it on their tongues. He also reminded them of the importance of responding correctly when receiving the sacrament.

The preparation for this important day included a Retreat held on 13 July 2024, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation on 28 September. The students also participated in sessions led by their teachers and the Seminarian brother, where they practised the proper way to go to Confession and receive the Eucharist.

They had been attending classes regularly since January 2024, with the majority showing nearly 75 percent attendance.

In his homily, Fr Leonard Yap spoke to both the students and their parents about the ongoing commitment needed in their faith journey. He stressed the importance of consistently attending Mass, receiving the Eucharist, and participating in Confession.

He reminded everyone that receiving the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Reconciliation should not mark the end of attending Sunday School, Masses, or Confession. He encouraged parents to actively guide their children in faith, as they are the first role models for their children and set the foundation for their spiritual growth.

The event was organised by the Bible & Faith Formation Committee (BFFC) Sunday School (English Session) of Blessed Sacrament Church (BSC).
