The much awaited church completed

SERIAN — After years of collecting donations from well wishers, St Theresa’s Parish Council finally fulfilled the wish of the Catholic community in the completion of the St John’s Church building at Melanjok, Simunjan.

The Church Building Committee comprising members from Serian and Simunjan formed on 4 August 2005 announced the completion of the church building including the parking area. It will be officially opened and blessed by Archbishop John Ha at 10 am on Monday, 28 November and named St John Chrysostom’s Catholic Church.

A Celebration Committee under the leadership of Julius Anot was formed for the function while Maximus Guan and Patrick Phua is the Secretary and Treasurer respectively. Other members of the Committee are William Lim Thai Jok, Edward Buda, Olbert Jugah, Thomas Ehol, Thomas Semawi, Richard Putih, Joseph Liam, Anthony Bong, Willhema Ho, Juan Joel and Benard.

The community thanks all donors and well wishers for their unfailing support towards the completion of the church. They cordially welcome them to attend the opening and blessing of the church. The Chairman of the St Theresa’s Parish Council cum Chairman of the Church Building Committee (Serian) Dennis Sung said that the official handing over ceremony will be sometime in January 2012 when the construction liability period expires on 1 January 2012.
