SIBU — On 8 September 2023, the feast day of the Nativity of Blessed Mother Mary, about 1,700 parishioners gathered at the Sacred Heart Centenary Hall for the thanksgiving dinner to celebrate the 38th Anniversary of the Dedication of Sacred Heart Cathedral cum 15th Anniversary of the Episcopal Ordination of Bishop Joseph Hii.
It was a night filled with entertainment, singing and dance performances from the parishioners and priests as they attempted to come in synodality to raise funds for building the Grotto of Mary Immaculate Conception at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Sibu. The estimated cost is RM1.5 million.
Many parishioners were generous with their contributions, while Fr Philip Hu (rector), Fr Edward Raymond and Capuchin Friar Fr Raphael Samosir could be seen performing joyfully on stage, to help raise funds for the construction of the Grotto.
